Puriton Village Hall
Puriton Village Hall was officially opened by the Marquess of Bath on Thursday 26th August 1937. The opening ceremony was held at 3.30pm and was followed by a dance in the evening. The admission price on the invitation was two shillings (10 pence).
The village hall is not managed by the Parish Council. The managing committee is made up of volunteers who represent the regular user groups and also members of the village elected on to the committee at the AGM. This takes place on the first Wednesday in May. The trustee committee members are: Alan Scott & Katie Newell, Joint Chairperson, Joh Dabenette Treasurer, Kim Heathcote, Secretary and trustees Mrs Denise Eggington, John Lunn, Ann Mason, Jason West and Sally Lunn.
Village hall committee meetings take place on the first Wednesday of the month except August and are held in the committee room of the hall. Members of the public are most welcome to attend
The village hall is well used with lots of activities and groups making use of the venue including Sunshine Pre-school, Puriton Players, WI, Rainbows, Brownies, Bingo, Wessex Dog Training, Willow Youth Theatre, Line dancing as well as an annual flower show . In addition there is the annual pantomime put on by the Puriton Players and a variety of fundraising events run by the village hall committee.
The grounds immediately around the hall have a play area for younger children, as well as a field and MUGA managed by the Puriton Playing Fields charity.
The hall is available for hire for private functions such as birthday parties, weddings, meetings and such like. The facilities include a new fully equipped kitchen, parking, disabled access and toilets. The hall has wireless broadband internet access plus a projector for use with presentations.
The current rate for use of the hall is £13 per hour.
