COVID-19: RETAIL, HOSPITALITY AND LEISURE GRANTS FOR COMMUNITY BUIILDINGS
The majority of community buildings, (including village halls), are eligible for this government support which is being awarded through the district councils. Although many halls have now been awarded grants, a number have still not applied. Please do share this information with any community halls in your area to ensure that they don’t miss out.
The Retail, Hospitality and Leisure grant is £10,000 for halls with a rateable value up to £15,000, and £25,000 for premises with a rateable value over £15,000 and less than £51,000. NB. Halls with 100% discretionary rate relief are still eligible.
See guidance from ACRE here.
Halls can apply by filling in a short online form on their district council website. Links to these pages can be found here. They will need their charity number (enter for company number), as well as rates and banking details.
NB. Church halls and Parish and Town Councils running halls, (as precepting authorities), are currently ineligible. However, they can contact their district council to request a discretionary award. Where a Parish or Town Council is sole trustee of a charitable hall it should be eligible because the rates are payable out of charity income, not the Council as the precepting authority
