Somerset CCG’s community health fair and Annual General Meeting took place on Tuesday 17 September 2019 at Westland Leisure Complex, Yeovil, BA20 2DD.
Our community health fair showcased the work of our providers and partners as well as providing healthy living advice and lifestyle information, including free health checks. Over 30 stands were in attendance talking to the public and each other about health related initiatives in Somerset.
The AGM followed the health fair and gave the public the opportunity to ask questions of our Directors. Questions centered around St Margret’s hospice, value for money for patients, nursing education and the use of digital technology in GP practices. These questions and their answers can be viewed in the minutes of the meeting when they are released.
16-22 September is Sexual Health Week. Sometimes, there can be a stigma attached to sexual health and this can make people feel embarrassed about getting advice or making an appointment with their local clinic. It’s therefore really important that we talk about sexual health services in a public setting and let people know what services are available to them. Local sexual health clinics play a vital role in improving people’s health and wellbeing and can offer help and advice with things like contraception and sexually transmitted infections.
