Free training for social entrepreneurs
Social enterprises, charities and co-operatives in Somerset can sign up for free bespoke training – plus a grant of £1,200.

Somerset County Council is supporting the free training to be held in Taunton between September 2019 and January 2020.

The course involves six days of learning spread over five months and will help delegates:

·        Develop business planning and strategy

·        Analyse and look to grow income streams

·        Improve leadership skills

·        Grow customer bases

·        Meet other business leaders in the area

The County Council is also providing match funding of £250,000 which will enable the South West Enhance Social Enterprise Programme to draw down more England European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) funding in recognition of the wider benefits of the programme.

Councillor David Hall, Cabinet Member for Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Planning and Community Infrastructure, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for social enterprises in Somerset to get free training and grant funding.

“We have provided funding to enable more money to be drawn down into the scheme. Third sector enterprises play a valuable role in our community and our economy and this will help them grow and thrive.”

The School for Social Enterprises Dartington is organising the programme, funded by the Heart of the South West Enhance Social Enterprise using funding from the ERDF.

The deadline for applications is 8 September. The course dates are:

·        Thursday 26 September

·        Tuesday 29 October

·        Thursday 21 November

·        Thursday 12 December

·        Thursday 23 January

Applicants need to be registered as a sole trader with a UTR*, or incorporated already or be able to confirm that they will be incorporated by the start of the programme.

*UTR is the registration code you get from when you register as a sole trader.
